ARMOUR AND SCULPTURE GALLERY

Armour has always been a major component of my business. In recent years most of my armour commissions have fallen into the “fantasy armour” genre. In the 16th and 17th century armour was becoming less and less practical on the battlefield. During this time a new type or armor arose called parade armour. Sometimes beautiful neoclassical in form other times grotesque, sometimes down right bizarre, this new armour was less concerned with function and more concerned with form. This period in history saw imagination fuse with unbelievable technical skill, producing wearable sculpture at the height of the metalworkers art.

To me armour has always represented sculpture pure and simple. Not surprisingly, sculpted fantasy armour is what I make, providing my client with a one of a kind costume or wall hanging which incorporates real traditional armour construction. My sculpture has evolved directly out of this. I am currently working with various metals and often combining these with traditional wrought iron components.
